The use of custom fabrication processes for the development of Single Photon Avalanche Detector (SPAD) devices and arrays with improved performances in the near infrared range, in terms of high photon detection efficiency (PDE) with high timing resolution is pursued. This SPAD detector will overcome the limitations typical of classical thin and thick SPADs, in fact the former attains limited PDE at longer wavelength, while the latter suffer of poor photon timing jitter. Significant advances are expected from the use of such devices ranging from single molecule analysis (the development of such detectors would be useful in parallel Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy or in spectrally resolved Fluorescence Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging (sFLIM) to quantum key distribution.

Present TRL is 4 and we expect to reach TRL 6 in 2/3 years.
