CNR-IMM Bologna is partner of the IPA/BC-monitor project, funded by Regione Emilia-Romagna in the framework of the POR FESR 2014-2020 call.

The project focuses on the development of an innovative system - compact and standalone - for online measurements of two key components of the particulate matter: Policyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) and Black Carbon (BC). The system is designed for integration into air quality networks in urban environments. A high degree of automation considerably lowers the costs for sampling and analysis with respect to conventional methods of PAH determination in PM. Online measurements of priority pollutants (PAH) and climate forcers (BC) are originally combined in “IPA/BC-Monitor”, which reflects the most recent trends in environment monitoring research: improving existing monitoring networks with cheap, automatic, transportable sensors optimal for monitoring in complex environments (i.e. urban areas), and efficient in providing a large amount of online data for administrations and citizens.

IPA/BC monitor is the solution for monitoring particulate matter (PM) emitted from traffic sources and household heating in urban environments, with a focus on priority micro pollutants (PAH) and climate forcers (black carbon BC).

CNR-IMM Bologna activities in IPA/BC-monitor are focussed on the development of a MEMS-based pre-concentration/focussing injector and GC separation module for the analysis of PAHs.
