Activity: 
Development of MEMS-based gas sensors and gas sensing systems. Design and characterization of micromachined components for analytical chemistry and lab-on-chip devices: packed and capillary MEMS GC columns, detectors, injectors and pre-concentrators. Miniaturized and application-specific microfluidic circuits for chemical analyses. Applications include environmental monitoring, safety&security, agrofood and industrial monitoring. Technology transfer towards SME and Industry. Head of the Electronics department of IMM Bologna and of the IMM application area "Multifunctional Micro/Nanosystems".
Curriculum: 

Stefano Zampolli graduated in Physics at the University of Bologna in 2000, discussing a thesis on the application of Fuzzy Logic for detection of buried landmines. At CNR ­ IMM Bologna since 2000, he works primarily on gas sensor characterization and data processing within the sensor and microsystem R&D program. Since 2005 he is Researcher in the sensors and microsystem group at CNR-IMM, designing and developing gas sensors and gas sensing Microsystems.
