Giulia Lorusso is Researcher at the Bologna unit of CNR-IMM institute since november 2020.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the University of Perugia (2007) and a PhD degree in Physics awarded by the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (2011).
From 2008 to 2011, she carried out her PhD thesis at the CNR-S3 Institute of Nanoscience in Modena, studying molecular nanomagnets promising for spin-based quantum technologies and acquiring skills in the use of experimental techniques for the measurements of magnetic and thermodynamic properties at the extreme conditions of low temperatures and high-applied magnetic field.
From 2012 to 2020, she worked as Postdoctoral Researcher in Zaragoza (Spain) at the Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Aragón (ICMA-CSIC), broadening her interests towards the investigation of the magnetocaloric effect for molecule-based materials. She extended her expertise to the integration and the study of molecular coolers on surface, for low temperature on-chip magnetic refrigeration applications. Also, she dedicated her research activities to the fabrication of highly sensitive silicon-based thermal sensors and to the implementation of original set-ups, for advanced experiments on sub-milligram single-crystals and thin films materials. During these years, she has been awarded the prestigious IEF fellowship within the Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (2012-2014), and two highly competitive Spanish postdoctoral grants: “Juan de la Cierva-formación” (2015-2016) and “Juan de la Cierva –Incorporación” (2017-2018) and she was PI for a Spanish “JIN“ project for young researchers (2019-2020).
Currently, she is responsible for the CNR node of the European MSCA-DN project "MolCal" (https://molcal.eu/), for the realization of on-chip molecular microrefrigerators. Also, having extended her interests to 2D materials for photo-electro-catalysis applications, she is the CNR responsible for the national PRIN-2022 project EPiCX (https://site.unibo.it/epicx/en), for the electro- and photoelectro-chemical CO2 conversion in extreme environments.
